Homemade and bought spindles

I made stone whorl spindles! (ok, my boyfriend helped) I bought all the supplies on ebay, there are so many stones on offer and so cheap. Also chopsticks and rubber grommet thingies to attach the stones to the sticks. So far I have these two, I'm still waiting for turquoise and opalite whorls. (if you do search on ebay, type in donut bead to see the huge selection). These are not the best or fastest spindles, but so cheap (under $10) and pretty. The chopsticks should be ebony, but it doesn't look like ebony to me. I stained one black using permanent marker topped with dark wood stain. Also, my boyfriend made a notch on the darker whorl... he's so sweet.

Taketo vretienka som vyrobila! Z kamienkov a cinskych paliciek kupenych na ebay. Frajer pomahal s vrtanim hacikov.

agate whorls
test spinning, merino/silk

I bought this beauty, made by Jesh, from her wonderful little shop. It spins beautifully, and the cracked glass effect on the whorl is amazing. I have this project going on that I take all the leftovers from carding, samples and other random fibers and spin them all together onto this spindle. So far I have 25 grams and the plan for now is to spin 3ply sock yarn and make socks or something out of it. Pretty dreadfull looking socks possibly.

Asi velmi skarede ponozky z toho vzniknu...

I meant to slide the cop onto a spare chopstick, didn't work out...
Keep spinning!

the whorls look pretty! there was a small article in one of the older spinoffs a while back. you could take spindle and whorl apart and use it to put your hair up - and when you are bored somewhere "on the go", just take the spindle parts out, "let your hair down" and start spinning:)) only, I found that those whorls were really to small for anything but the finest yarns.

how cool! i have always wondering about spindles. my house is way to small for a spinning wheel but i have always thought about trying out drop spindles. your yarn looks lovely to me.

perhaps dreadful looking, but you are using all materials which makes you an earth saver, or at least a pioneer!
